The Casting Couch – Meet The New X-Men

X-MEN-APOCALYPSE
It’s actually quite strange seeing her smile

Hey it’s apparently a new year (I still abide by the Julian calendar) so its time for an exciting new regular feature. This one is called The Casting Couch and its all about – can you guess? Yes that’s right, it’s about furniture. Wait, no that’s wrong, it’s about interesting new movie casting decisions. Our first sexy session on the casting couch is X-Men: Age Of Apocalypse.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past was a huge success so a sequel was inevitable. What’s interesting is that the sequel will be set in the 1980s so many of the original X-Men cast are too old to play our favourite mutants. So who is going to fill the characters’ super-boots?

Sophie Turner is Jean Grey

The most boringly named X-Man ever will now be played by Sophie Turner who you’ll know as the world’s unluckiest ginger – Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones. Turner should be able to do justice to the young version of Jean Grey, she’s got the hair, the ability, and actually has real life telekinetic powers. After displaying this supernatural ability in her audition, Turner seemed like the natural choice for Grey.

Tye Sheridan is Cyclops

Having previously worked with McConaughey and Cage as a child, there’s a good chance he’s very weird now.

No one’s favourite X-Man will be portrayed by Tye Sheridan best known for Mud, Joe, and having a name that keeps autocorrecting into ‘The Sheridan’. Sheridan will have to break his contract agreement of only acting in films with one syllable titles to act in Age Of Apocalypse, showing his determination to portray Scott Summers. Nice one The! (damn you autocorrect!).

Alexandra Shipp is Storm

Hmmm, I might have to watch this so called ‘Squeakquel’

Let’s be honest – Halle Berry wasn’t great as Aurora Monroe aka Storm. In the comics Storm is a noble, powerful, take no shit, African mutant who can control the weather. Compare this to Berry’s version who was a bit of a wet blanket. Hopefully new girl Shipp will be a better fit. You’ll all know her from instant movie classic Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel so we know she’s got the acting chops needed.

Oscar Isaac is Apocalypse

Think of a big film coming this year, chances are this guy is in it.

If you’re nerdy like me you’ll know doubt be squeakqueling with excitement at the fact Apocalypse is in the next X-Men movie. For those who don’t know, Apocalypse is a three thousand year old mutant who emerges from his slumber in Egypt and gives The X-Men an absolute kicking. Oscar Isaac is in most films these days so why not have him play the ultimate X-Men villain. Apocalypse will be brought to life using a mixture of makeup and computer effects.

Returning cast members include Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender. Unconfirmed is Hugh Jackman but you just know hell be in there somewhere. X-Men: Age Of Apocalypse is shaping up to be an exciting prospect which we’ll no doubt hear more about in the near future.

What do you think of these casting decisions? Have you seen Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel? Have you got any telekinetic powers? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Great to see Oscar Isaac cast as Apocalypse, though frankly I’m more excited for the rumoured TV series than the movies – the franchise desperately needs a fresh start!

  2. i thought days of future past was very meh, except for the bit with quicksilver, so i am not overly enthusiastic about this … but it will be cool to see oscar isaac, and i wonder if sophie turner will get any tips on acting in xmen films from game of thrones co star dinklage …i have absolutely no idea who alexandra shipp is, but, goodness me!

Here’s an important question–is this YOUR casting couch? Because…ew.
